Happy Friday!
We had a very studious week in 1st grade with the Terra Nova Test. The students did AMAZING! They sat very quietly, filled in the bubbles, and listened to the directions. I knew that it would be hard for the 1st graders to sit take such a test so I thought of a good idea. They would be taking 8 tests. So I blew up 8 balloons and slipped a piece of paper in each one with something fun to do. After each test, we popped a balloon and SURPRISE! The fun things we got to do were: Science experiment, Watch a movie, Extra Recess, Creation Station, Games, Paper airplane challenge, Inside recess, and Painting. The students had so much fun! Hard work = FUN later! :)
We also had an exciting week with Kid City! First of all, thank you to all the parents who came out to help. We couldn’t have done it without you!
The students had fun doing 2 jobs as well as shopping around Kid City. They had to cash a check for $30 to get money to spend around the city. They had to get an ID card from the City Hall, go to the Hospital and Pharmacy, maybe go to the Church or School, go shopping at the Store, get some snacks at the Restaurant, and when they were finished, they could play in the “Park.” The most exciting things is that they get to do it again next year!

May 8th - Field Trip to Okinawa Kodomo no Kuni
The first graders will be going to Okinawa Kodomo no Kuni and Wonder Museum for our field trip! Parents are invited to come with us.

- Lunchお弁当, Water bottle (already filled)すいとう Pencil/eraser えんぴつ消しゴム
- Wear Friendship Friday T-shirt or an orange T-shirt. オレンジのシャツ
- Sunscreen and/or hat日焼け止め、帽子
Parents can meet us at the zoo with their child or without their child. 子供と一緒に子供の国に直接行きたければ、私に伝えてください。９：３０頃に子供に国到着してください。
You can also leave from the zoo with your child.遠足の後に一緒に子供と帰りたければ、私に伝えてください。
On Wednesday, I will send home a Group Discount Ticket. Please take this with you to the zoo to get a discount on your entrance fee. The school will pay the entrance fee for all the students, but you can use the Group Discount for any others (siblings, etc) who would like to go.
来週水曜日にご父母のための団体割引券をわたします。それを遠足まで持って行ってください。先生方は生徒たちの分を払います。親は団体券を使ってください。小さな兄妹やおじいさんおばあさんも行ってもいいですよ〜

May 25th - No School - Memorial Day
Summer School Packets - Last week, you should have received a packet for Summer School. Your child was either Required or Invited to come to Summer School. If your child was Required, it means that they could use a little extra help before advancing to 2nd grade. During summer school, the teachers will work with the students on Reading, Writing, and Math. It will be a great opportunity to continue the English education as well.
