Happy Friday! We had a fun filled week in first grade!
Today we had a special guest come to our school, Ace the Dog! He is a certified emotional therapy dog through the red cross. His owner read us a story and we got to pet Ace. It was so much fun!
This Week:
Reading - We learned about the Beginning, Middle, and End of a story. It’s an important comprehension skill where the kids can retell the important parts of a story. We read some fun books and thought hard about the beginning, middle and end. Today we picked a book from our book folder and wrote the B, M, and E!
Math: We are cruising through subtraction. Students are doing great!
Science - We are learning about how a plant grows. We read some beautiful books this week and watched some videos about a lima been growing. We even got to examine a succulent and a black bean.
Writing - This week Mrs. Hewitt modeled some fun How To writings such as “How to Brush Your Teeth” and “How to Make a Peanut Butter Sandwich.” The students did great trying to write How To stories themselves.
In Bible we finished up the unit on Joseph and got to learn about how God kept his promises throughout Joseph’s life and though his brothers meant everything to hurt Joseph, God used it for the good to save the Israelites from famine - WOW!
Spelling - This week we played some fun spelling games!
Next Week:
Spelling Words: long king ring long sung sink wink bunk on but
Bible Memory Verse: “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever.” Psalm 118:1
