Friday News for Oct 21-14

Please remember NO SCHOOL tomorrow. Today is the end of 1st Quarter - so that means report cards are being made, so tomorrow is Record's Day for teachers to get their grades and comments done.

On Monday will be the start of 2nd Quarter. Wow! This year is already going by so fast!

This week was a super short week of only 3 days! We did many review activities during the week

1. Today we played a short game of bingo using clocks. We have so far learned how to tell time to the hour and the half hour.

2. We enjoyed a very funny book read by Mrs. A in the library.

3. For Bible, we made a small Art project using star stickers and REAL sand, showing how God kept his promise to Abraham.

Some Important Information

- Tonight, I send home some Math and Phonics games to the students to play over the week. Since we don't have school tomorrow, if you could make sure your child plays the games a few time. Please try to keep all the pieces of the game together. Have your child bring it back to school on Monday. Have fun playing them!

- We sent home 2 IMPORTANT papers today in their Folder. One is the Parent Teacher Conference sheet. It has your scheduled time. Please sign it and return it back to school so we can confirm the scheduled time. Another is the Sweet Potato Digging flyer. This is a field trip for K-3. I'm sorry but, parents are unable to come because of limited space. Please sign the permission slip and send it back to school.

Homework Checklist

Happy Wednesday everyone!

I am getting stricter about their homework these days... If one of their homeworks is not checked for the night, I am making them stay in from their Morning Recess to finish it, even the read for 10 minutes. Please encourage your child to finish all their homework at home. If you are unable to find books for them to read, please let me know and I can send home books from my own classroom library.

As always, I'm here for any questions!

Friday News for Oct 7-11

What a windy day, eh? We had a fun and crazy Friday here at school today.

Some highlights from the week:
Math - We learned all about patterns this week! Patters in clothes, patters in our classroom, patterns on a number grid. We designed our own pattern square too!

Bible - Continued on in the story of Isaac and retold the story of Jacob and Esau using little finger puppets.

Reading - Read a super interesting book called Tikki Tikki Tembo. We stopped in the middle of the book and drew our prediction to how we thought the book would end.

Important Announcements and Upcoming Events:
Please check the OCSI website for any announcements about school closure because of a typhoon. I think the administration tries to make the decision by 6am. So continue to check after that time. I will also try to put it on my website whenever I get the news. If anything else happens and we are unable to get the word out, we will use the phone tree that our wonderful room moms have made for us.

Also, OCSI follows the military weather advisory that follows a scale called TCOOR. If we are in TCOOR 1 for a typhoon there is no school. You can check for yourself here - http://weather.kadenaforcesupport.com/update/tccor.htm

Room Mom's and Phone Tree

Last year, when one of the large typhoons came to Okinawa, the school lost electricity for a few days. As a result, we were unable to communicate to the families about a school closure. To try to help with that, I asked my Room Mom's to help me make a phone tree. This was sent home today. Please keep it and refer to it in case of an emergency or for an important message.

Here is a message from the Room Mom's:

We/Yumiko, Sewwandi and Rika will be this year's Room Parents, and we are looking forward to a good year.
We are planning to have First Coffee Social for the parents near the future, and will announce the details later.
