This week:
Monday was our Sweet Potato Digging! We found a TON of HUGE sweet potatoes! I hope everyone got to enjoy their sweet potatoes at home. I made Beni-imo chips with mine! I will put a slide show of pictures up soon.
Reading:
- Strategy: Retelling. After reading a book, it is always a good idea to practice retelling, or telling the story to someone. This week we played a game where the students had to retell a story to 4 people using rock, paper, and scissors.
Writing:
- Procedural Writing: This week we learned the different transitional words you can use while writing such as “First, then, next, finally” and “First, second, third, fourth, and fifth.”
Math: We learned how to tell time to the half hour. It was a little tricky because clocks can be read as 11:30 or “half past 11.” The students worked hard though and by the end of the week, they got it! Today we also learned about frames and arrows. We had to watch the ‘rule’ and figure out how to continue the pattern.
Bible: We finished the story in Moses about the 10 plagues, and continued to the crossing of the Red Sea, the now, the people of God are gathered at Mount Sinai where God is going to give them the 10 ‘rules’ or ‘commandments’ for them to follow. So far we learned the first 4: 1. You shall have no other gods before me. 2. You shall not make for yourself an idol. 3. Do not misuse the name of the Lord. 4 Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy.
Science: We learned about the life cycle of an ant! Ants are fascinating! We learned that they are born as an egg but then hatch into a larva, turn into a pupa before becoming an ant.
Fun Friday - Geoboards!
Next Week:
Spelling: long king ring long sung sink wink bunk on but
Bible Memory: “The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.” Exodus 15:2a
