Friday News for the Week of May 27-31

Happy Friday! (Only one more Friday left in the school year!)

I was so glad to be back with my first graders this week after a few days with the 5th graders! The students also said they had a fun time with their sub!

This Week…
We are still going strong on all of our learning! It doesn’t stop yet!

… we learned about halves and fourths and equal parts to get ready for fractions!
… we learned how to compare and contrast two texts, or stories, or characters.
… we reviewed and practiced all the spelling words each students missed from the beginning of the year until the end!
… we are finishing up our nonfiction animal books by illustrating and adding a table of contents.
… we learned how King Cyrus allowed some of the Israelites to return home to Israel to start rebuilding the temple! God kept his promise like always!

Today Mrs. R brought cake for a mini celebration! (Maybe that explains why your child came home hyper… :P)

Next Week:

Last Day of School:
June 12th - 12:30 dismissal
Class Party: Only 8 more days until the end of first grade - unbelievable! On Wednesday, June 12th school will be dismissed at 12:30 and no lunch will be served in the cafeteria. So instead, let's have an end-of-the-year party! Parents are invited to come! Each child (and parent) needs to bring their own bento or lunch for the day. We will each be eating our own lunches... BUT after that we will have ICE CREAM SUNDAE'S!! I will supply the ice cream but I'm wondering if you can help supply some topping for Ice Cream Sundaes. Attached is a link to a signup genius site where you can sign up to bring some items if you would like to!

Parents you are invited to come at 11:00am to start our End-of-the Year Party. We will play a game and eat together. You can bring the dessert food with you then, or if you can't come, please send the food with your child in the morning.Thanks and don't hesitate to ask if you have a question! See you then!
いよいよ1年生の終わりがおとずれます。最後の日6月12日は12:30に学校が終わります。その日はカフェテリアでの給食もありません。親の皆さんもどうぞきてください!ですので、その日,皆さん自分の弁当を持ってきてください。お弁当を食べた後にアイスクリームパーティーをします。下のリンクをクリックしたらアイスクリームパーティーの為に必要ないくつのものが書いてあります。持ってこれたら名前を書いてください。持ってこなくても、どうぞきてください!

11:00から食事とパーティーを始めます。一緒にゲームと食事をします。デサートの食べ物はその時に持ってきてもいいし、来られなければ、子供に学校へ持たせてもいいですよ。よろしくお願いします!

Friday News for the Week of May 13-17

Happy Friday! We had another wonderful week in 1st grade! So sad to think there are only a few more weeks left. Soon these kiddos will be 2ND GRADERS!!!!

This week we learned…

… about Author’s Purpose! There are three - to persuade, to inform, and to entertain - which makes PIE! We read some fun books to show each one.
… about the sides and vertices of a triangle, trapezoid, square, rectangle, and circle.
… about how different objects have different sounds.
… how God was with Daniel and his friends in Babylon and how he even saved Daniel from getting eaten by lions!
… how to do research by highlighting information of animals such as diet, description, habitat, and fun fact. We are getting ready to write our own animal nonfiction book!
… and much more!

We did some science experiments about sound on Friday!






Next Week:

FIELD TRIP!!!!


Happy Friday!
We had a great day at the zoo today! Here are some pictures!






This week we…
… learned about compound words.
… Identified main idea and details of a nonfiction book.
… learned about how Elijah died and how Elisha took his place, as well as how the prophets foretold Jesus’ birth and life.
… how to read a clock to the hour and half hour.
… learned about mammals, reptiles, and amphibians.
… learned about adjectives.

Friday News for the Week of April 29-May 2nd

Happy Thursday! and Happy Golden Week! and Happy beginning of Reiwa!!!

This week we…
… continued learning about Nonfiction Text Features. Students were given a book and a partner and had to find things such as index, glossary, photograph, and main idea.








.... picked one of our realistic fiction stories and edited it to publish it!
… ended measurement and started learning about clocks to the hour.
...learned about birds.
… learned about Solomon’s sin, the dividing of the kingdom of Israel, and trouble that continued with Israel not following God. Today was the story of Elijah on Mt. Carmel where he had a contest with the prophets of Baal. God vs. idols - guess who won? God did!

NO SCHOOL TOMORROW!

FIELD TRIP - May 10th, Friday!

Papers were sent home today! Please SIGN the Permission Slip and FILL OUT the Parent Volunteer Form and send them both back to school by Wednesday, May 8th. Please let me know if you have any questions!!!

Friday News for the Week of April 22-26

Happy Friday!

This Week:
Reading: We focused on Nonfiction books. We compared nonfiction books with fictions books to see the difference. We noticed that nonfiction books give us information or teach us something. We also learned that nonfiction books have Titles, a Title Page, Headings, Photographs, Glossary, Index, and Table of Content. On Friday we did a scavenger hunt to find different examples of a nonfiction text features in different books!

Math: We moved into learning about measurement. We learned the words “measure” and “unit” and we went around the room measuring things with connecting cubes. Next we will learn about telling time!

Bible: We jumped back into Solomon after learning about Easter. We learned that at the end of Solomon’s life, he became very confident and stopped trusting in God. He followed after the idols of his wives. As a result, God wasn’t very happy. He kept his promise to David, but he divided the kingdom in 2 parts. We’ll learn more about that next week. Today we did a recap of all of God’s promises from Adam and Eve all the way to Solomon.

Writing: The students are doing great writing realistic fiction! We reviewed how to bring our characters to life and good spelling strategies. Next week we’ll pick our favorite piece and publish it!

Science - We started learning about animals classification! Today we learned about the characteristics of a fish.

Friday News for the Week of April 15-19

Happy Friday!
Wow, we had an incredible Kid City yesterday!!! Thank you to the parents who came and helped out! The kids had a blast and so did I! Here are some pictures!
















This Week:
We had a new student and said goodbye to another student - so bitter sweet!

We practiced a lot for Kid City and talked about it.

We learned how to read bar graphs.

We wrote realistic fiction stories with good endings.

We learned about Jesus’ last week on earth and ended with the amazing hope of his resurrections and his promise to come back for us some day!

… and much more!

Friday News for the Week of April 1-5

Happy Friday! We had a fun field day today!










This Week:
Reading - Tune into interesting words: We read a lot of Kevin Henkes books this week cause they have lots of interesting words! We expanded our vocab and searched for interesting words this week!

Math: We learned how to read and write bar graphs and picture graphs this week.

Bible: We learned about Solomon and how he asked God for wisdom! Solomon also built the temple for God and it took him 7 years to do it!

Writing  - We continued to write realistic fiction stories by thinking of familiar settings and developing an independent "can-do" attitude.

APRIL 8-12 SPRING BREAK!
