Mathletics

In Elementary at OCSI, we use a fun math resource called Mathletics

Mathletics is question based, where the students to gather points to complete each level. In first grade, we have been going to the computer lab to do 30 minutes of Mathletics.

The great things is that Mathletics can be done at home! I sent home your child's username and password for Mathletics a few days ago...(I'm sorry I didn't attach a note with it... I think it was on Friday..) If you cannot find it, please email me and I will send you your child's username and password. 

When the students pass all the levels there is a fun certificate that I will print out and send home. The students can also improve their math facts with "Live Mathletics." They can even compete with students around the world!

Homework checklist for the week

Behavior Calendar

Please leave the behavior calendar in the homework folder so that it gets sent back to school. The students have done "outstanding" every day!


A change with the folders: Instead of sending home a Friday Folder, I will just continue to send home the Homework folder every day, even on Friday's. On Friday, please take out your child's work that they have finished throughout the week and keep it at home. Please keep the Behavior Calendar in the Folder.

The Friday Folder's, instead, will be used for the Music to keep their binder and papers inside.

Friday News for September 9-13

Hello everyone! Happy Saturday! I'm really sorry I am posting this on Saturday instead of Friday... I will try not to let it happen again.

• We are having LOTS of fun in 1st grade so far!

• This week we will start weekly Spelling words. They are short a words. Every day there will be Spelling homework to help practice the words. On Friday, we will have a Spelling Test. I will say the word, say it in a sentence, and say the word again. Then the student will write it down.

• Bible verse for this week, "Dear Friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another." 1 John 4:11

• Please make sure to have your child leave their library book in their backpack after you use it at night, we will start to use it in class sometimes, as well as we need all the library books back on TUESDAY of every week. Please have your child start reading to you every night!

Computer Use Guidelines for Elementary Students

Hello everyone!

In the homework folder tonight, I have sent home a Computer Use Guidelines for Elementary Students paper. This paper is required for all students to read and understand before using the computers at school. We have read over the paper at school and talked about each one of the points. We want to teach these students now how to be safe digital citizens. Please talk with your son or daughter about using the computers safely.

The students have signed their name to say that they understand (except some of the points are too hard to explain and too hard for me to even understand...) So, parents, please look over it and sign the bottom to show that you agree and understand. After you sign, please cut that part off and send it back to school. 

Thank you for helping me as we train these little ones while they are young.

Hi!

I hope everyone had a good Labor Day yesterday. Even though it was really windy and typhoony I still had a nice Monday.

I would just like to let you know of a few things.

1. Because of my mistake, I forgot to print out the new behavior calendar for September. I am working on that now and will give it to the students tomorrow. Sorry about that! Every one did "Outstanding" today as usual.

2. We welcomed a new student today - Shotaro Kido! He has been on my list because we were expecting him, but he jumped right in to our class and it felt like he has been here all along! We're excited to have in him our class.

3. Please continue to send in the Family Information Sheets and the Friendship T-shirt money and order form if you would like to order it. We should have been back before our first out-of-school event!
