Friday News for Week of Aug 22-26

Happy Friday!

It was great to meet you all tonight at the Open House! I’m so excited for the rest of this school year!

Here’s a recap of what we learned this week at in 1st grade.

Rules:  We finished learning all of our rules! We practiced them everyday and tried to use them in the classroom.

Reading: We started learning about what it means to Read to Self - We learned we need to read the whole time, stay in one spot, start right away, work quietly, and build stamina.

We also learned how to pick our own book with I-PICK Purpose, Interest, Comprehension, and Know the words. Next week, the students will pick 6 books to read for the week as we build stamina to read independetly.

We started reviewing our consonant sounds to get ready for spelling and reading more!

Math: This week we did some review with before and after numbers as well as skip counting by 2’s 5’s and 10’s. For some practice games, look below for Computer Lab Games 1 and 2.

Bible: We started with the amazing story of creation! We learned that God made the world in 6 days and on the 7th day he rested. We learned that humans were created in the image of God and how everything he created was good!

On Friday, the students had done so well that they got to choose a Fun Friday activity!
