LAST FRIDAY NEWS!!! for the week of June 4-8

Last Friday of the 2017-2018 school year!

We had a wonderful last full week of school!

This Week:
Reading - We reviewed all the reading strategies that we learned this school year starting with Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expanding Vocabulary. Each day we talked about all the different ways we are smarter at reading while reading some fun Dr. Seuss nonfiction books. I’m so proud of all these students and how much they have improved in reading this year!

Math: We finished Chapter 10 with a review of the 3-D shapes AND a review of the whole school year. All the students did great on the Chapter 1-10 test - I was so proud of how much they learned in 1st grade math this year!

Bible- We finished our Bible curriculum with a review of all the promises God made to the Israelites. A promise that God makes is called a Covenant and it’s so amazing how God has a plan from the very beginning of how to save all the people! I told the students that my prayer is that someday all of them will choose to follow Jesus as their Savior. They can do so by say that Jesus is Lord and believing in their heart that Jesus was raised from the dead (Romans 10:9-10). There are many churches this summer who are doing Vacation Bible Schools so please check it out if you have time!

Writing - We did a variety of writing activities this week including making “Thank you” cards, share our animal research papers, and starting a 1st grade memory book.

Science - We started learning about States of Matter - Solid, liquid, and gas.

This week was the last week of our specials: music, PE, and art. I’m thankful for the specials teachers!

This week we also said goodbye to our helper High School teacher Ms. Meg!

Next Week: No spelling words or Bible Memory. There will still be homework but no homework checklist!

Friday News for the Week of May 28 to June 1

Happy Friday!

One more regular week of school left!!

This Week:
Reading: Fact and Opinion - We looked at some phrases that were facts and some that were opinion.
It’s a good skill to distinguish between the two. Is that a fact or is it an opinion?

Math: We learned some fun 3D shapes! We learned how many faces and vertices they each had.
Next week we’ll do a 3D shapes museum! The students might ask you if they can take different
objects to class to display in a 3D shape museum. They have to ask your permission before they
bring it and please make sure it is not valuable!

Writing - We are just about finished with our animal writing papers. Next week we’ll share it with
our classmates. When it goes home, please celebrate with your child how well much they have
grown in writing this year!

Bible - We learned about how King Cyrus allowed the Jews to return to Israel (it had been 70 years just
like the prophets predicted!). Israel was all in shambles but the people rebuild the temple and then
rebuilt the wall around Jerusalem. They trusted in God and repented of their evil ways and rebuilt
their lives.

4th Grade Guests: The 4th grade students from Ms. Sorley’s class came and read their books to us!

We also made a PPAP Compound Word video!

Next Week:

Bible Memory: How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news.Romans 10:15
Spelling Words - Individually missed spelling words from all the spelling tests:

Class Party on June 13th -

Only 9 more days until the end of first grade - unbelievable! On Wednesday, June 13th school
will be dismissed at 12:30 and no lunch will be served in the cafeteria. So instead, let's have
an end-of-the-year party! Could you bring some food to share with the 1.1 class for lunch?
(For about 20 people) We need finger foods, desserts, fruits, drinks, plates, etc. (Same as the
Christmas party!)

Some ideas are finger sandwiches, chicken nuggets, finger size foods, meatballs,
cheese and crackers, fruit etc.

Could you let me know what foods you would be able to send in? You can reply to me and
I will update what everyone is bringing on my website so you can check it to make sure we
don't have double of something.

Parents you are invited to come at 11:30am to start our End-of-the Year Party. We will play
a game and eat together.  You can bring the food with you then, or if you can't come, please
send the food with your child in the morning.

Thanks and don't hesitate to ask if you have a question!
