Friday News for the Week of May 21-25

Happy Friday!

We have 12 days of school left!

This Week:
Reading - Compare and Contrast - This week we read several Skippy Jon Jones books. All are written by the same author so we looked at what is similar and different about the different books. We also looked at comparing and contrasting 1st grade and 2nd grade, boys and girls, and summer and winter. We also connected this to Bible where we compared and contrasted Daniel and Esther.

Writing: We are busy writing our animal research reports. Right now we are compiling our research into paragraphs to write on the final draft. We will start the final draft next week and be finished by the following week.

Math - We are almost finished with our 2D shapes chapter. This week we learned what it means to have halves and fourths and equal parts. We don’t want to say, “That’s not fair!” instead, equal parts are fair for all the pieces! We will take our Chapter 9 test on Tuesday. Then next week we will finish with 3D shapes! We have also been working on some timed addition fact quizzes to get our addition facts faster and faster!

Bible: We learned the amazing story of Esther this week! God used her to save all the Jews in the Persian empire. She risked her life to go before the king. What an incredible story!

Science - We finished learning about amphibians and reptiles.

For Fun Friday today we got to play with chalk! We decorated the whole basketball and 4-square court!

Next Week:
Bible Memory: “Stand up and praise the Lord your God, who is from everlasting to everlasting.” Nehemiah 9:5b
Spelling Words: (Review and some new) hopping, hoping, making, smiling, makes, liked, worked, stepped, hoped, hopped, ruled, rainbow, airplane, homework, I’m, can’t, we’re, he’s, don’t, we’ll
