Friday News for the Week of Jan28-Feb1

Happy Friday!

We had a fun spirit week! Here's some pics!
Twin Day!

Mismatch day!

Decades Day

Reading: We learned about prior knowledge. We learned that we need to think - what do we already know about a book before reading it. This helps us to think “what do we want to know?” and later “what did we learn?” This week we filled out a KWL chart together. On Friday we read a popcorn book and the students wrote down something the already knew about popcorn.

Math: We started learning about value! The students were excited to start this lesson! It’s an important foundational part to math so I hope they all can master it!

Bible: We are learning about the judges and finished the story of Gideon and the Midianites. We colored a horn, torch, and jar to cut out and use for the story. It was exciting to see how God only needed 300 men to surprise and confuse the Midianites and win against them. Next week we’ll learn about Samson!

Writing: We are learning some really hard stuff in writing - but stuff that will help the students as they grow up to be amazing writers! Today we looked at quoting an expert and how that can help persuade others of your opinion. I told the students that they don’t have to try today - BUT so many of them decided to quote experts from various books in the reading library! I was blown away! Way to go writers!

Social Studies: We started preparing for Kid City by learning about the fire station. We learned what a fire fighter does and we learned how to STOP, DROP, and ROLL if we catch on fire. Next week we’ll learn about the post office!

Spelling: We played some fun spelling games this week.

Next Week:
Bible Memory Verse: “I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliever. ” Psalm 18:1-2
Spelling Words (Review): boys boxes tent late rain may came boat hope told coat like time find kind seed meet meat weak week
