Friday News for December 16-19

This week felt very long after a few week in November of lots of Christmas Program practices. But it was a very good week - we learned a lot and caught up on our studies.

Reading - We read 2 super fun books, Miss Nelson is Missing, and Miss Nelson is Back. We talked about the characters, learned about setting and tried to summarize the story. What if Ms. Turner doesn’t come to school and instead a scary mean teacher comes instead... :)

Math - We finished up Unit 4 with learning to tell time to the quarter hour (It’s really difficult!) I even had a hard time with “a quarter to 9” or “a quarter after 10.” We are also learning the other way to read time with 10:15 and 11:45 as well. We also learned about timelines, as well as the average height of a student which is  47 inches and 49 inches.

Today we had fun being Math Facts Superheros. I taught the students how important it is that they know their math facts because that will help them when they grow up!

Bible - We have had a great time learning the Christmas Story. This year I had 10 envelopes hanging on my whiteboard. Each envelope contained an object or picture to help tell the Christmas story. After teaching the story, the students also received this object or picture and got to keep it in their own envelope. How neat that God’s own son was born on earth in a stable and was visited by lowly Shepherds! What a humble king!
We visited the Manger scene on campus!

NEXT WEEK!

Christmas Party - Thursday, December 19th. Last day of school.
All the parents are invited to come to our Christmas Party. Here is the schedule:
8:30-10:00 - Students in classroom with Ms. Turner
10:00-10:15 - Recess

10:15-11:00 - Parents are invited to come and we will go to Mrs. Gosin's room for a Christmas Party. We will do different activities such as decorating cookies, making a craft, coloring, and taking pictures.

11:00-12:00 - Lunch in Ms. Turner's room with 1.2 students and parents, recess if extra time.

Thank you for signing up to bring food on the last day of school. If you would like to, you can send the food with your child on the bus or car. Or, if you want to bring it, you can bring it when you come or before 11:00am.  Thank you!

親も一緒においで下さい!10:15からクリスマスクラフトやクッキーデコレーションもします。それから、11時にみんなで食べましょう。ぜひ来れたらどうぞ!

Bible Memory - Same from last week, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.” Luke 2:14

Christmas Giving Opportunity
Christmas time is a wonderful time to remember all that we have been given, and also a good time to remember those people who do not have their daily need. As a class of 1.2, we will start a collection box for any unnecessary food you may have in your kitchen. Traditionally, we do a "o-soji" during this time, so if you do and find you have some unopened food that you do not use, please send it to school with your child and we will donate it to welfare office in Okinawa city, (governmental office). Some ideas are canned food, dry noodle, rice or pasta. You do not have to spend any extra money, just a chance to give to someone who may not have anything this winter season.
