Friday News for the Week of December 4-8

Happy Friday!

Only 5 more days until Christmas break!

This week was a tiring week with the Christmas Program right in the middle, lots of practice and a late night on Wednesday - BUT the students all did AMAZING!!!! Here’s some pictures from the night:

Everyone did fabulous!!

Reading: This week we read some fun books by David Shannon and talked about reading books with lots of expression. That means using the periods, exclamation points, and question marks well.

Math: We learned some great subtraction strategies such as counting back, using a number line, using doubles to help us subtract, and writing subtraction number sentences. The students are doing great!

Bible: We started the story of Christmas this week! We have 6 envelopes with a picture in it. As I tell the story, I open an envelope and use the picture to tell the story. The students also all have a envelope that they put the same picture in to help tell the story.

Hour of Code: This week, the whole school participated in some thing called the Hour of Code. For 1 hour, the 1st graders did CODING?!?! Like actual computer coding in a fun Star Wars game type! Some of the students caught on real quick and I could see them grow up to be computer engineers! Here’s some pics:

The students can continue to do this at home!

Have them visit:

Science - We started learning about the 4 seasons.

Next Week:
No Spelling Words

Bible Memory Verse: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.” Luke 2:14

Friday December 15th Last day of school before Christmas Break and Class Party!

Next Friday, December 15th school will be dismissed at 12:30 and no lunch will be served in the cafeteria. So instead, let's have a Christmas party! Could you bring some food to share with the 1.1 class for lunch? (For about 20 people) We need finger foods, desserts, fruits, drinks, plates, etc.
Some ideas are finger sandwiches, chicken nuggets, finger size foods, meatballs, cheese and crackers, fruit etc.
Could you let me know what foods you would be able to send in? You can reply to me and I will update what everyone is bringing on my website so you can check it to make sure we don't have double of something.
Parents you are invited to come at 11am to start our Christmas Party. We will play a game, do a craft and eat together. You can bring the food with you then, or if you can't come, please send the food with your child in the morning.

Thank you!
I hope to see you on Friday!
