Hi everyone! I hope your week has been going well. Here are some things as we continue on through the school year that you might want to keep in mind! Library Books: please make sure to send them back to school with your child on Wednesday mornings! During library time, your child usually gets 2 books. One book must be an AR (Accelerated Reader) book. It will have a blue sticker that looks like this.
Depending on the student's STAR test results, the child will have a book within their reading range to help them continue to improve in reading. On Wednesday the students will take a quiz over their ARbook at their level. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD IS READING THE BOOK. It's a good idea to read it together and ask them questions while they read it. The other book they can check out is a book they can have for fun for the week.
Sorry it's late, here's the Homework Checklist!

Bible Verse: “Shout for joy to the Lord all the earth.” Psalm 100:1
We had another fun and learning-filled week in 1st grade.
Here’s what we learned:
Reading: We learned all about Authors and Illustrators this week. We learned that sometimes the authors and illustrators are different people, but sometimes they are the same. We also learned that WE can be authors and illustrators! I read a story to the students that I wrote when I was in 4th grade! We looked in our book bags and found the authors and illustrators of the books we were reading.
Math: We learned about the nickel!!!
We learned that a nickel is the same as 5 pennies and we can use it to exchange a lot of pennies into only a few coins. Counting nickels and pennies are a little tricky but the students are working hard and doing a good job! Today we played a fun game where we collected pennies and exchanged them for nickels.
Bible: We continued learning about Abraham this week. This week we learned that 3 visitors came to Abraham and told him that by next year, he and Sarah would have a baby! Sarah was so shocked so she laughed! But NOTHING is impossible with God! A year later, sure enough, Sarah had a baby names Isaac which was God’s promise all along to Abraham. How cool is that?
We watched this fun video and danced around to the other one.
OCSI Elementary Behavior Management Plan: An important document was sent home today. Please read it with your child and sign and return the section.

Bible Verse: “The Lord is my light and my salvation - whom shall I fear? Psalm 27:1b
We had beautiful weather for our field trip on Thursday!!! Thanks for the parents who came out to enjoy the day with us.
The students had fun splashing around in the water as well as sliding down the slide and playing in the sand. Here are some pictures!
This was a very short week of learning, but here is some of what we learned!
Reading: We successfully completed 20 minutes of Read to Someone. The students really enjoyed reading to a friend. Here is our I-chart to show what we learned and practiced. We also practiced the strategy of using the beginning and end letter in a word to figure out the word. We learned all about titles too. Titles of a book are usually capitalized as well as months, the letter I, names, titles, and the start of a sentence. Here’s a poster we learned about.
Math: This week we learned about telling time to an hour. Most students already knew that! Wow!
Bible: This week we learned about how God called Moses and made a covenant with him. A covenant is a special promise between God and a person. We learned that God never breaks his promises and that he has a special plan for Moses’ life and his family.
