Thursday News for Week of March 22-24

This week was a very short week! AND we had lot of student absent because of sickness! I hope everyone is rested and feeling better!

This Week:
Reading and Writing: We read the book Prince Fly Guy which went with our fairy tale writing! The students have started writing their fairy tales and doing a great job! We are also working hard on our Student Led Conference portfolios.

Math: We worked on adding two items up together as well as making change. We also used calculators to practice! This is good practice for Kid City!

Bible: We learned the sad story of how Jesus was put on the cross even though he didn’t do anything wrong! It was scary to learn about how he was beat and bleeding and put on the cross. But we know that the story doesn’t end there! 3 days later, the tomb which he was laid in was rolled away AND he was ALIVE! He then appeared to his disciples and for 40 days continued to teach them. After that, he went into heaven and is there now until he comes back again. Wow! Thank you Jesus for taking our sins and dying for us!

Today we used one piece of origami, folded it a few times, cut it in half and told the story of Easter!

Friday News for Week of March 14-18

Happy Friday!

We had a very different week where we got to participate in Kids Club! The students rotated around learning a Bible story, doing a craft, playing games, and singing songs to learn about being grateful, grace, and faithfulness. Here are some pictures.

This Week:

Writing: We started writing our own Fairy Tale. It started with a story map where we brainstormed and thought of different ideas and then we put it in a template to write our ideas out. Next week we will write our first draft of the story!

On Thursday, our student teacher for the week, read us The Three Bears. The students did a great job thinking of the lesson from that fairy tale.

Math: We are working with harder and harder money and the students are getting faster at counting money! This week we learned about the dollar bill and practiced writing money with the correct notation like $4.45. We also used our base 10 blocks to compare money and the blocks together. I can see the students’ brains moving as they think through these tricky problems!

Bible: We are going through the stories of Jesus’ last days on earth. From his riding into Jerusalem on a donkey to his dinner with his disciples where he took some bread and juice and shared it to them, to the garden where Jesus was praying, and now Jesus has been arrested and all of his friends have run away. Jesus was perfect and never did anything wrong but is wrongly accused where he is convicted to death on a cross. The story seems so sad now, but next week the story will end happy!

Social Studies: Be watching your mail box for something exciting from your child! :)

Friday News for week of March 8-11

Happy Friday!

Today the 1st and 2nd grade students went on a tour around the world. We visited the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms where they shared with us their country projects. The upper elementary students did a great job sharing their projects and the 1st graders did a great job listening and asking questions. I hope everyone learned something new about a country today.

We had fun eating in our classroom too!

This Week:

Reading: Our focus was Fairy Tales. We learned that fairy tales usually have a good opening (Once upon a time…) a good ending (and they all lived happily ever after), royalty (kings, princesses), love, good characters, bad characters, and special numbers or repeated phrases. We read the story of Rapunzel, Hansel and Gretel, and Rumpelstiltskin and found out that is has all of those!

Math: We did a lot of review this week. On Monday we took a Unit 7 math test as well as a 3D shapes test to see if the students know the names. We also had the students bring in 3D shapes and today they put their 3D shapes on their desk and went around and said the name of each shape. We also reviewed telling time and counting money. We will soon move into counting with dollars and giving change so I want to make sure all the students are able to count money well.

Bible: We finished the story of David with God’s promise that his son will continue to be king and build a temple for God. Next week, we will take a break from David and the Israelites and talk about the Easter story until Easter!

Social Studies: We are working hard learning about different places in a city. This week we learned about the Bank. We learned that deposit means to put money in the bank and withdrawal means to take money out. We also practiced balancing a checkbook by taking money out and putting money in. I hope these students grow up to be wise with their money!

The Bazaar last week was a great success! We made and sold about 2000 Lumpia! Thank you to all the families that donated money, the moms and dads who came out to wrap lumpia, decorate the booth and help sell on the Bazaar day! Also, a HUGE thank you to Mrs. Alcantara, Mrs. Ikehara, and Mrs. Young for all of their help organizing and getting the supplies for Lumpia! You guys are awesome!

Next Week:

Friday News for Week of Feb 29-March 4

Happy Friday and day before the Bazaar!

This Week:

Reading: This week we focused on fables. Fables are old stories passed down that teach a lesson and usually involved animals talking. The students did great with the stories read aloud about finding the lesson in it. We read: The Fox and the Stork, The Little Red Hen, The Magic Fish, The Tortoise and the Hare, and The Three Little Pigs.

Math: This week was a fun week in math as we reviewed polygons, learned 3D shapes, and symmetry! The students did great with learning the new material and had fun cutting out symmetrical shapes.

Here's some pictures of playing some math games:

Bible: We started the week with a sad story of the death of Saul and Jonathan. Even though Saul had been chasing after David, when Saul died, David was sad and cried about his death. David has now finally became king and we can see through the stories that David, though he was human, had a good heart and trusted God in the things he did.

Social Studies: We learned about the Police Station - that the Police are there to keep us safe and to help us follow the rules of the country. At Kid City, the students will be returning lost items as well as reporting lost items. They will also be changing their address at the Police Station. The students did a great job practicing the job of the Police Officer!

Today the students got to bring home their Math Journal 1. Please praise the students for their hard work in the first Math Journal. You can keep it. We are now working hard through Math Journal 2.

Next Week:

Bible Memory: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19

Friday March 11 - Everyone needs a Home lunch for Culture Day. 1st grade will travel around to the 3-5th grade classrooms. Because the 3-5th graders will be using the cafeteria, so we will eat outside or in our classroom.
